Pappy's Original Kraut & Meatballs

First, thank you so much Misty for giving me this awesome recipe. Misty’s Pappy made this while she was growing up and passed it on to her. I was extremely hesitant the first time I tried this but I am so glad I did. If you like Sauerkraut and meatballs you will love this recipe. I always ate my kraut with pork not hamburger so with this came the doubt. Pappy was from Czechoslovakia so is this recipe. Just try it you will enjoy it.

2 lbs of Hamburger

I Bag or large can of Sauerkraut

Head of Cabbage

2 Cups of Brown Rice (uncooked) you may not want to use all 2 cups

½ Cup of Bread Crumbs (more bread crumb may be needed)

Spices to taste (I use pepper, garlic, onion or Lawry’s)

1 Large Can of Tomato Juice

2 Large Can of Tomato Sauce

How to Cook

1) Cook 2 Cups of brown rice according to cooking instructions.

2) Mix browned hamburger, bread crumb, rice and spices together.

3) Make medium size meatballs

4) Shred Cabbage on bottom of pan

5) Put Sauerkraut on top of Cabbage

6) Lay Meatballs on Sauerkraut

7) Pour one large can of Tomato Juice over

8) Pour 2 large Cans of Tomato Sauce over

Bake in a roaster for about 2 hours or until meatballs & Cabbage is done.
